Hon. Nasira Afrah Gyekye
Their Story

Biography

Hajia Nasira Afrah Gyekye is the Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana — a dynamic, reform-oriented young leader who, at 32, stands as one of the youngest Members of Parliament in the 9th Parliament and the first female representative in the constituency's history. Born on 10 June 1992 in Drobonso, she is a proud daughter of Ashanti, and her election carries the historic aspirations of a community that had never sent a woman to Parliament.

Hon. Nasira holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration and Governance and a Master's degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, both from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). In a remarkable achievement, she completed her master's degree during the 2024 electoral campaign itself — describing the simultaneous academic and political victories as a 'double blessing.' Her expertise in international relations and diplomacy brings a distinctly global perspective to constituency development, enabling her to apply best practices from across the world to agriculture, education, and governance challenges.

Before entering Parliament, she served as Managing Director of Autoglad Ghana Limited and as a Board Member of the Ghana Gas Board, demonstrating executive capability in both private and public sectors. She won the NDC primary by defeating a sitting MP and a former presidential aspirant, before winning the general election with 11,524 votes (70.92%) — one of the most decisive margins in the Ashanti Region, where NDC victories are historically rare.

Speaker Alban Bagbin recognised her exceptional calibre by appointing her as Ghana's representative to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Forum of Young Parliamentarians Bureau — an honour extended to very few Ghanaian parliamentarians since the Forum's founding in 2013. She is also an inspiring advocate for Muslim women in leadership, speaking at events such as the KNUST Annual Muslim Ladies Conference to encourage women and girls to pursue public service and academic excellence.

Youth & Gender Inclusion

An unwavering commitment to championing young people — especially young women — as active architects of Ghana's political, economic, and social future.

Agricultural Transformation

Placing the farming communities that form the backbone of Sekyere Afram Plains at the centre of every development strategy, budget advocacy, and policy initiative.

Diplomatic Thinking

Applying the analytical rigour and global perspective of international relations training to local constituency challenges — drawing on what works globally to serve local needs.
